E’ partito il dream tour 2016 WSL (World Surf League) con la prima giornata del Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast a Snapper Rocks (Gold Coast, Australia): onde di 3-4 piedi sporcate da un moderato vento side-on shore hanno permesso lo svolgimento del primo round uomini.
Questa prima tappa in Gold Coast è sempre una dura prova per tutti i pro surfers e come primo confronto riserba sempre delle sorprese. Tra le teste di serie Adriano de Souza, Kelly Slater, Jordy Smith e John John Florence sono stati costretti ai ripescaggi del secondo round, mentre l’armata brasiliana è più che motivata a raggiungere le prime posizioni.

Dopo la vittoria lo scorso anno di Filipe Toledo, quest’anno fra i favoriti troviamo anche Italo Ferreira e la stella Gabriel Medina, entrambi primi nelle loro heat. Tra gli australiani si sono fatti notare Matt Wilkinson (punteggio più alto su singola onda) e l’atletico Mick Fanning, ma anche il local Joel Parkinson ha dimostrato di essere in buona forma.
