When I was child, my father always went swimming with me and my sister where my brother already practiced windsurfing because they are older. I always watched them and could not wait to be old enough to handle a sail. When I was 9 years my father finally taught me how to windsurf. SUP my sister Alice taught me when she came back from Maui after first trying this new great sport there. I was hooked with both from the start.

My first Double Foward attempt was really special and helped me to develop a lot in my skills. For SUP it was my first barrel.
Why Fanatic?

INTERVIEW WITH MAXIME VON GENT
Tell us a bit about yourself and how you got into Windsurfing and Stand Up Paddling?
I moved to Bonaire when I was 12 years old. In the first year on Bonaire I didn’t windsurf at all and also didn’t think I would like it. Then I met a friend who loved to windsurf and she took me to Sorobon. It looked so amazing and I really wanted to try it, so I asked if I could rent a board. For the whole summer I tried and tried and after a month I was already planing and from then I was hooked for life, the feeling when you go fast on the water was just so good. Then for a month or two I learned to jibe and tack and ride very fast over the water, but when I saw all the freestylers I thought that I want to be like that! So I just started to jump and fall and jump and fall… After half a year I got my own stuff because renting every day was a lot of money. From then I really could Freestyle. The first time I landed my Vulcan was so amazing – this feeling you get after trying for so long and then finally it happens that you want more and more.
And what was your favourite experience on a Windsurfboard/SUP?
I don’t have so much experience in SUP but everything I have is good but one off my favourite is when I go SUP with sunset. I really love that seeing the air turning pink and me SUP in that I really love it!
Why Fanatic? Did you get a chance to try any of our gear yet?
I really like the boards, the shapes as well as the looks – Fanatic just suits me and works very well for me.
What are your plans for 2013?
I will try to do the tour. And train as much as I can. But I also have to finish school this year.
Which goals do you want to reach in 2013?
I will finish my high school this year and practice windsurfing to get better for next year´s season. I would really like to get in the top 5 next year. In vacation time I am organising Kids Clinics at the Jibe City to teach children the fun of windsurfing. And every Saturday I work at a surf shop and when it’s busy I also help out in the bar on other days, so I can save some money for travelling. I would love to go see more of the world and windsurf at different places and meet people. I hope I can make women windsurfing more attractive again and will be happy to promote it all over the world.
