RESULTS! 2015 Ledge Point to Lancelin race winner is Steve Allen for the third year in a row!

Crossing the finish line first in the 25km windsurfing marathon for the third year running was Steve Allen from Australia, with a time of 28.17.40 minutes, beating his 2014 time of 29.59 by more than a full minute.

Following within a minute for second position was Swiss Patrick Diethelm (28.47.30) and West Australian Rowen Law for third (28.55.10). Switzerland also can claim the first female rider to cross the line; multiple world champion Karin Jaggi at 32.57.60!

Steve Allen said that the wind was perfect, “For a really fast run, conditions were perfect. I’m happy to win but I think I could have finished a little bit quicker, but my uni broke on the second reach and I had to nurse it for the whole the race.”

“I had a very average start, maybe seventh or worse but quickly I was just passing them one by one. Patrick [who placed second] is a very fast sailor, and while my start was bad luckily he’s was a bit worse!”

220 competitors attempted the 25km down wind race, taking place for the 30th time since a group of windsurfers planned a fun afternoon with their buddies in 1986. Since then, the event has expanded to take in kitesurfing, stand up paddle boarding and jet-ski competitions.

The summery heat kept the wind light throughout the earlier part of the day giving the stand up paddle group perfect conditions to undertake a group demonstration at Ledge Point and for the high octane Jet Ski race on Lancelin Beach.

With a thirty minute delay to the race start time to give the afternoon breeze time to settle in, winds blew at 15knts, gusting to 20knts creating challenging conditions for all competitors.
